Mitch Watkins grew up in McAllen, Texas. At 13 he played with a surf band then toured with a rock band before completing is four years at the University of Texas. He studied choral conducting; he studied composition and jazz guitar. As a young man he played jazz fusion with German organist, Barbara Dennerlein. He played lead guitar for Leonard Cohen! Then he played with Joe Ely, K.T. Oslin, Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker and was nominated for a Grammy for his production work with Abra Moore. He taught at the University of Texas. Mitch has recorded five CDs. At his Georgetown concert he is expected to play some tunes from his 2022 CD release titled “…and.” Mitch is married to KMFA 89.5 radio announcer Dianne Donovan. Dianne does vocals on the album’s title song. Chris Maresh on bass and Masumi Jones on drums round out the trio.
