Youth Jazz Faculty
Weekly instruction consists of three components: the Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Combos and Studio Classes.
The 2024 program will begin in January and will meet Wednesdays 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Butler School of Music on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
- The Jazz Orchestra will serve as the program’s flagship performing ensemble.
- Jazz Combos will be formed from the YJO. Students will have an opportunity to develop skills in small ensemble playing, Jazz improvisation, performance etiquette, as well as leadership.
- Studio Classes will deliver a well-defined and informative curriculum that focuses on developing several aspects of Jazz musicianship including: swing, phrasing, aural skills, improvisation, technique, theory, listening, transcription, repertoire, and history. The curriculum will be delivered by the faculty-mentors in studio classes.
The success of this program will require participation and support from students, parents, educators, donors and sponsors. We invite everyone to play a part in the success of the Austin Youth Jazz Orchestra. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution and/or becoming a sponsor.
