Roscoe Beck The Austin Jazz Society is proud to induct bassist, musical director, and Grammy-
nominated producer Roscoe Beck into the Hall of Fame.
For over five decades, Roscoe has been the elegant, driving force behind some of the
most iconic voices and instrumentalists in modern music history. Renowned for his
signature "solid bottom-line" groove, he transitions effortlessly between the
sophisticated phrasing of jazz, the grit of Texas blues, and the storytelling of folk-rock.
Whether laying down a deep, acoustic pocket on the upright or bringing his unparalleled
fingerstyle precision to the electric bass, Roscoe’s playing elevates every arrangement
it touches.
Central to Roscoe’s extraordinary legacy is his decades-long association with the
legendary Leonard Cohen. Beginning with the 1979 album Recent Songs, eventually
serving as his trusted Musical Director and bassist during his historic, sweeping world
tours from 2008 to 2013. Roscoe’s genius for arrangement was also brought to the
forefront when he co-produced the landmark album Famous Blue Raincoat with Jennifer
Warnes in 1986—a critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated masterpiece that redefined
Cohen's catalog for a new generation.
Beyond these career-defining partnerships, Roscoe anchored the rhythm section of the
Grammy-nominated fusion powerhouse Robben Ford & The Blue Line, collaborated
closely with guitar virtuoso Eric Johnson, and collaborated with Fender to create the
acclaimed Fender Roscoe Beck Signature Bass in four and five string models. As a
performer, producer, and mentor, Roscoe Beck represents the very best of the Austin
music legacy. We are honored to celebrate his extraordinary career and lasting
contributions to the jazz community.
